When I walked into work today, I was shocked by the dirtiness of the place. I instantly began restocking, cleaning, and preparing the place for the day. While I am relatively timid at work now, I know there will come an opportunity for me to express my expectations. I strongly feel that people should leave a place the way they entered and first experienced it.
I also began scheduling for both locations, central and downtown. This has deemed itself the most difficult task thus far, simply because people work there part time. When a comany has a lot of part time employees, it makes it difficult to schedule around other requests. I've also been asked by my co-workers to speak with my boss about his hiring choice, and I feel anxious about that. I wish there was a seamless way of approaching this situation. I think my best bet is to take a couple days, and get back to it.
I'll keep you posted.
I would imagine scheduling being difficult! Everyone probably expects time off and people don't always approach it as a "request" off..
ReplyDeleteI work at a bar part time, and some weeks I'm not even on the schedule because my manager has so many employees to deal with. He uses email a lot and is constantly updating the staff about what's going on, what he expects, and why... and he's funny about it so that helps. I think its helps take the pressure off of him too because he always makes it clear what is expected of us. No one can deny getting the emails, and he can refer back to them later if an issue comes up :)
I hear what you are saying about people needing to leave a place the way they found it. Especially if it was clean. At my work the kitchen/break room has seen days where you would swear a tornado struck. Dirty dishes, trash, newspapers on the table.........I could go on. I just grit my teeth and clean it up.
ReplyDeleteI am definitely interested to hear how you approach this topic with your supervisor and how it goes. Those can be difficult conversations sometimes.
ReplyDeleteI completely understand and agree about the cleanliness!! I work in a small booth and have had a heck of a time getting my co-workers to keep it clean and tidy. I have always found that sugar works better then a stick.
